Mark Robert Davey is a British black-and-white infrared photographer and filmmaker based in Germany whose work evokes a timeless, cinematic quality. Deeply inspired by early 20th-century cinema, his images blend romance, mystery, and emotion into visual narratives that resonate with audiences around the world.

The Physical Artwork
Davey’s photographic works are conceived as physical works of art, rather than as infinitely reproducible digital images.
Each photographic work is produced as a museum-quality fine-art print and is individually signed by the artist and authenticated with his official studio embossed stamp. His artist books are likewise conceived and produced as collectible physical art objects, each signed and embossed by the artist.
The physical work, bearing the artist’s signature and official studio embossing, constitutes the authenticated original artwork. These elements provide an enduring connection between the artist, the work and its provenance, distinguishing the original physical piece from digital files, reproductions or subsequent interpretations.
In an increasingly digital and AI-generated visual culture, the distinction between an original work and an endlessly reproducible image becomes ever more significant. Davey’s work retains its identity through its physical presence, authorship, authentication and provenance.
These works are not circulated through mainstream art-market channels. Instead, they are placed privately through direct, one-to-one engagement between the artist and the collector. This approach preserves not only their rarity, but also the direct relationship between artist, artwork and collector.
His work has been published in print and digital publications and exhibited internationally. Drawing on more than four decades of photographic practice, Davey continues to evolve his visual language through both traditional and contemporary processes.
A selection of his work explores the hybrid image — combining original in-camera photography with carefully controlled AI processes to develop a distinctive visual look, atmosphere, lighting or sense of place. The photographic image remains the foundation of the work; AI is employed as a creative instrument to extend its visual and cinematic possibilities.
